Board Readiness Program - A first for South Australia

Bringing Women, Technology and Boards Together.

A critical element of Board effectiveness is diverse and equitable composition. Yet statistics show that women hold less than 10% of Board memberships. Of equal concern, although less well documented, is the lack of technical capability represented in the Board arena. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the majority of organisations have not accepted that technology issues must be dealt with at Board level as they have critical financial and risk management implications.

The Board Readiness Program aims to address these issues by improving the calibre of candidates available for Board selection. Participants are equipped with the skills required to become highly effective Board members and provided with the opportunity to showcase these skills to some of South Australia’s organisations.

The Board Readiness Program is designed for women who have the desire to apply their personal and professional skills as non-executive directors. The Board Readiness Program was developed by the Women in Technology (WIT) Queensland Association in 2002. The programs high placement rate of graduates into board positions has been one of the greatest success stories in terms of its contribution to WIT’s reputation as an influential and relevant industry association. It has generated an enormous amount of interest from Government, Industry, other Associations and executive members. We are very pleased to bring this program to South Australia under the AWISE umbrella.
